Irishman Matador has become the new champion of the minimal techno school with his own record label, Rukus, forming part of the avant-garde. Here he steps up by joining Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels. He begins with 'My Yellow Coat', a brilliant atmospheric piece with enveloping drums and confessional-sounding indie vocals. It is intimate and tender, perfect for late nights in a backroom. On the B-side is a remix by New York techno terminator, Levon Vincent, who transforms it into something robust and raw, with scratchy claps and grainy kicks that burst into a nocturnal urban landscape.
