Martin Patiño - Hunter [Cadenza]

Cadenza Records kick off their tenth year on the scene with ‘Hunter’, a release that balances the warm and cinematic productions of Martin Patino’s original mixes, with a dark and powerful remix from young talent Julien Bracht. With previous releases and remixes on labels such as Freerange, Suara, Trapez and Rotary Cocktail, Patino is forging an expansive and eclectic deep house sound, and his abilities are perfectly reflected on this release.

‘Your Lips, Underwater’ is a track that has been months in the making, a percussive and melodic groove wrapped up in heavy analogue bass and flirting with jazz keys. The lead track, ‘Hunter’, featuring the vocals of Astrid Hald, is a powerful and brooding production. The house groove builds perfectly, with the melancholic vocal underpinned by dramatic and sweeping pianos and strings, evoking shades of Massive Attack’s production style. ‘Hunter’ is a stunning and highly original piece of work.

Cadenza’s newest signing, Julien Bracht, offers up a remix of ‘Hunter’, bringing a completely different interpretation to the original. Appropriately titled the ‘Darkmix’, Bracht goes about deconstructing and rebuilding the track, taking distorted snippets of the vocal, whilst a watery, rumbling bass envelops the percussion-heavy and reverb-laden groove. Impressive!
