M A N I K returns to Ovum with the “House Cut 1” EP. A long-standing veteran within Josh Wink’s Ovum imprint, the “House Cut 1” EP marks MANIK’s fourth outing for the label and maintains the high standard of quality we’ve come to expect from an artist currently sitting comfortably at the top of his game.

True to its name, the EP is comprised of a trio of raw, robust, house-influenced cuts, varying in style and function. The title track draws the listener in with bubbling synths floating over a stripped-back 4x4 beat, before giving way to a frantic flurry of staccato claps and ride cymbals.

“Nothing Better” proceeds with forceful tech-house thrust, with shimmering chords building to give way to what can only be described as a thunderous bassline. As the track progresses, flashes of acid combine with cowbells and 808 hi-hats to create an authentic peak-time floor monster.

The EP closes with a more melodic approach on “Finch,” where a rumbling analog bass cuts through a hypnotic web of arpeggiated synths and orbiting claps. An atmospheric closer to an extremely versatile EP; there’s undoubtedly something for everyone on this release.
