Louis The 4th - Ascent of Mount Agung EP [Planet Rhythm]

Louis The 4th caused quite a stir in 2024 with a series of very well-received EPs on labels such as TH Tar Hollow, Prima Materia, and Planet Rhythm. He kicks off his 2025 release campaign with a confident and characteristic return to the latter label, taking us on an imaginary ascent of Mount Agung, Indonesia.

Hints of this loose theme can be perceived in the opening track, 'Balinese Morality,' a melodic yet hard-hitting techno piece, where ascending and descending synth loops dance over a powerful rhythmic foundation and a deep, rumbling bass. The struggle to keep climbing the mythical volcano is reflected in 'Drive System,' a dark, suffocating, and percussion-laden track, ideal for the most demanding dance floor.

Later, 'Memoir' explores sonic territory similar to 'Balinese Morality,' while 'End of June' subtly walks the line between the lo-fi hedonism of techno and a melodic hypnotism designed for the peak of the set.
