Gerald Mitchell—keyboardist and producer from Detroit, perhaps best known for his UR Hardlife, 044, and The Deacon aliases—reactivates his lesser-celebrated but equally potent project Los Hermanos for “Keep Hold Tight,” the fourth installment in the Motor City Edition series on Rawax. The main track, “Keep Hold Tight,” brings funk radio samples and a bright layer of neon pads that keeps us in sustained tension, while “Hey You” shifts to a more mutant beatjazz groove, without losing a firm four-on-the-floor kick drum foundation. “Lifted Soul” and “The Descendant” further reduce the B-side with typically Detroit dexterity.
