Lauren Lo Sung - Shroom (Youandewan Remix) [Locus]

Liverpool-based artist Lauren Lo Sung, with her stripped-back, groove-laden take on house, has garnered early acclaim as an artist to watch, making her a favoured name in the minimal-house sphere across the UK and beyond. Returning to the label for the first time since her slick ‘Miss B’ EP in 2021, and fresh off the back of a string of dates worldwide, including her latest US and Australian tours, late July welcomes her return to FUSE’s sister label, LOCUS, as she delivers a pair of quality cuts on her ‘Shroom’ EP, with The Brain and Pure Shores boss Youandewan making his label debut in charge of remix duties.

Kicking things off with the title track, ‘Shroom’ is a winding cut built around a robust bassline and distorted lows, heightened by ethereal synths and warped vocal interjections for a lively ride. Next up, the second original, ‘Tom & Jerry’, utilises acid squelches, hazy melodies and cosmic tones beneath the track’s captivating video game vocal and electronic samples for a vibrant and playful production. Rounding off the package, the B-side is home to Youandewan’s darker and hard-hitting take on the title track, combining quirky electronics, slithering grooves, off-kilter interludes and neon synths for a signature offering.
