Taking a side step out of the usual Late Night Tales line, Tom Findlay of Groove Armada presents a special Music For Pleasure selection featuring some of the finest pop-soul gems of the 70s and early 80s. Press play and suddenly life feels a whole lot better. The sun is shining, because around here it always does. In your mind, you are roller skating down Venice Beach, the breeze gently caressing your blonde hair. You live in an apartment high in Laurel Canyon. You’ve never been better.

Whilst California has an obvious starring role, it isn’t just the Pacific Coast on show here. We have some Scotsmen, a Yorkshireman, some guys from Birmingham… but as the saying goes, “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” This legend has been lovingly compiled by Tom Findlay of Groove Armada. As one half of Groove Armada, he’s had Grammy-nominated singles (Superstylin’) and founded London’s Lovebox festival. With Tim Hutton he forms the duo SugarDaddy, responsible for a tasty take on Ace’s How Long, included here. Also present, as they should be, are Steve Miller Band with Fly Like An Eagle, Average White Band’s Work To Do, Michael McDonald with I Keep Forgettin’, and there’s even room for a special Balearic edit of 10cc’s I’m Not In Love.
