Late Night Tales: Air

Let’s be honest: French chill-out masters Air were never going to struggle to compile a sophisticated, mood-enhancing rock/pop/soul blend. Starting with The Cure’s ‘All Cats Are Grey’ (from the dawn of their dark trilogy - Faith: nothing like starting as you mean to go on), it soon delves into even more psychedelic territories with Black Sabbath’s ‘Planet Caravan’ (from their 1970 album Paranoid) and Nino Rota’s ultra-eerie ‘O Venezia, Venaga, Venusia’ (from the original soundtrack to ‘76 art-house movie ‘Il Casanova di Fellini’), slowly incorporating tracks from The Band, Japan, Scott Walker and Lee Hazlewood. As melancholic as it is dreamy, you can rest assured there’s no JLS in the mix here.
