Reissue of a lost gem from British composer Kevan Frost, now reclaimed and revitalized with a new Dub version by Mark Grusane. Available for pre-order now, with a planned release in late March as part of our RSS series.

Kevan Frost grew up in Jos, Nigeria, where he became a self-taught musician and developed a deep understanding of rhythm and melody. During the 1990s, he worked as a session musician for numerous studios in London. One of them was unable to pay him for his services, so they offered him a few free studio days. The result was “Give It Up,” as he himself recounts:

“I went into the studio and recorded all the music in one day, and the vocals along with the mix on the second. These were the days when we only had 24 tracks on tape, so I programmed the drums, bass, and keyboards in C-Lab, which was only available for Atari computers, and used samples I had created on my Akai S-1000 sampler. I arrived early on the first day loaded with floppy disks and transferred everything to tape. Then I recorded the guitars. On the second day, I focused on layering the lead vocals and backing vocals as quickly as I could before starting the mix.”

However, the track fell into oblivion due to lack of major label backing or promotional budget. Years later, a friend of Mark Grusane found it in Brooklyn, at the African Record Centre, and it eventually made its way to Mark. From there, he created an edit of the original track, transforming it into a more minimalist dub version, which he began to play with great success on dancefloors.

After an intensive search, we managed to locate Kevan, and an official, fully licensed reissue will arrive at Rush Hour in late March 2026, including an exclusive new version: Mark Grusane's “Dub Mix.”
