Juan MacLean and Man Power debut as Juan Power on Life and Death

Life and Death continues to deliver brilliantly unpredictable releases with a new record bringing together DFA's historic artist Juan MacLean, along with UK label boss Me Me Me, Man Power, plus an edit by DJ Tennis himself.

Juan MacLean is a multifaceted artist with a career ranging from playing in post-hardcore bands to producing some of DFA's most celebrated releases. No one blends elegant house with layers of synth-pop and disco like him. Man Power, for his part, is a fantastically eclectic character in all his facets as a DJ, label boss, and producer. He has produced raw acid, euphoric house, and machine disco, as well as many sounds in between, both on his own label and on cult platforms like Correspondent and ESP Institute. The union of these two undeniable studio wizards undoubtedly represents a fascinating proposition.

And that's clear from the start: "Crescendo" is a nine-minute masterpiece where wobbly house drums force you to move as enveloping percussion builds tension. Eventually, warm and beautiful chords appear, creating an effect of absolute bliss, leading you into a dreamy state and keeping you hypnotized until the end.

Then DJ Tennis himself appears with a deep and cavernous edit of "Excuse Me Daddy." Alongside suspended pads, an intricate synth line emerges that leads you into a perfectly melancholic introspection.

To close, "Praise The Toad" speeds up the rhythm with more organic-feeling drums and a brilliant main synth that rises and falls with a cosmic effect. Developed throughout the entire track, between nervous claps and cleverly placed effects, the result is a journey to the stars capable of enchanting anyone who hears it.
