Joey Negro - Distorted Dreams EP (Ron Trent, Fouk, Crackazat Remixes) [Z Records]

Following the success of Joey Negro’s ‘Produced With Love’ album, four of the tracks get the remix treatment from a stellar cast of producers, each bringing their own flavour.

Kicking off the EP, Chicago legend Ron Trent takes the Arthur Russell tinged funk original, ‘Distorting Space Time’, and transforms it into a deep house groover, with a powerful walking bassline and a soulful richness in the elements only he knows how to bring.

Next up is Crackazat, who takes on ‘Lactican Boogie’, converting it into an uptempo piano driven stomper, loaded with emotion and ready to storm the summer.

On the flip, Lay-Far delves into ‘In Search of The Dream’, adding bubbling synth stabs and a deep driving bassline to give it a tougher edge, without losing the disco flavour thanks to Angela Johnson’s emotive vocal.

Closing the EP, Fouk brings it full circle by bringing his hazy jazz-tinged style to ‘Distorting Space Time’, building the remix around warm Rhodes chords, a shuffled beat and a dynamic bassline.
