JKriv returns home to Razor-N-Tape with the Intuition EP, a forceful statement of how much his sound has evolved in the two plus years since his last artist release on the label.
Blueprint, a floor-shredder driven by a relentless bassline, slowly builds through conversational synth elements into an open-ended soulful vocal loop that busts into a euphoric peak. The title track is an enveloping, slow-burn dub, equally inspired by 90s Ryuichi Sakamoto records and modern G-funk. Over its nimble piano, sticky vocoder melodies, and rolling bass, Megatronic delivers a melancholic message about relational loss and renewal, with closing vocal harmonies added by J himself.
Zone 1, a homage to David Morales’ incredible 90s Red Zone remix catalog, pushes forward with insistent analog drums and an absolutely filthy bass underneath a pillowy layer of lush and acidic synths. Proudly sporting the influence of J’s favorite producer, Larry Heard, Paula’s Dance is a symphony of intertwined analog equipment, featuring a mysterious and beautiful vocal from Mexican singer Pahua.
Completed as JKriv was undergoing treatment for lymphoma in late 2024, this record is both deeply personal and a triumphant statement of determination in the face of adversity. The beautiful artwork from The Myno captures both the vulnerability and focus that defined the period when J created this music.
