Gunjack leaves a lasting impression with the "Detroit Tango" EP for Planet Rhythm, following the distinct style of Motor City techno while bringing an extremely balanced and original approach. The producer exhibits a clinical, precise, almost surgical approach to texture, gain, and mixing, building on a genre that otherwise prides itself on its 'rawness' (i.e. a lack of polished, street-level realism) and moving towards a direction of serenity and clarity. Take for example the bass movements in 'Rocket Surgery', where the track's youthful hook and subaquatic kick do not sound separately, but one seems to 'emerge' from the other; and 'The Drumz', which evidently follows in the wake of Millsart's 'The Bells' for a livelier frolic, albeit one that somehow still fits with the softer subtleties of the other tracks on the EP.
