Belgrade producer Marko Milicevic, better known as Gramophonedzie, broke through in 2010 with this debut single: a daring electro-swing concoction that took Peggy Lee’s “Why Don’t You Do Right?” as both sacred text and raw material. Released via Positiva and Virgin, it became a club classic and subsequently earned gold certification in Italy.

“Why Don’t You” clips and rearranges Peggy Lee’s smoky vocal into a house stomper driven by blaring horns and a rhythm that pounds with blunt force. The radio edit pares it down to the essentials for a more direct hit, while remixes by Jude & Frank and DJ Sneak take it further into peak-time territory.

It’s a self-consciously flamboyant track, built to make vintage glamour sweat under the strobes.
