Selector Series returns with another collector’s gem, this time in the form of early 80s boogie from Detroit. Gene Dunlap was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He began his musical career at the age of four when his father taught him how to play the drums, honing his talent at Mumford High in Detroit. He later played with Roy Ayers before releasing two solo albums in 1981: It’s Just The Way I Feel and Party In Me.
The lead track Party In Me, backed with Take My Love, was only released as a promo 12” back in 1981. Today, it’s rare and highly sought after; if it does appear on the second-hand market, it can fetch over £100. Remastered from the original tapes and reissued for the first time since its release 43 years ago, fans can finally get their hands on a boogie classic from this drum master.
