Gary Beck returns to Mutual Rytm with a selection of impactful cuts on his 12” vinyl debut, Upside Criminal.

BEK Audio head and Glasgow techno mainstay Gary Beck has long been a key figure in the scene with a unique sound that has shaped a vast discography. One of the genre’s finest, with appearances at iconic institutions and collaborations with legendary talents, he is an undeniable talent. Following his recent appearance on the label’s Federation Of Rytm III VA, his new EP arrives as one of Mutual Rytm boss’s recent favourites.

“Mutual Rytm has been a big source of inspiration for me over the last few years. I’ve been playing almost everything from the label, as the tracks really fit with what I was selecting in my DJ sets. The high quality of their releases motivated me to create something for the label myself, and I was so happy that Marco liked what I sent over. This EP reflects exactly where I am musically. I love tracks with relentless energy and constant grooves with little breakdown, so I felt this was a perfect fit. The tracks on this EP have been an absolute joy to play in my sets recently, and I am super excited to release this EP on my current favourite label, Mutual Rytm.” - Gary Beck.

The mighty Upside Criminal opens with pounding drums and intense hits creating an inescapable wall of sound that will dominate dancefloors of all sizes. Sambana brings more circular energy, with its stinging and increasingly angular synth chords and sizzling drum textures, while Pepper Track is an exercise in futuristic techno with wobbly snares and mutating synth details peeling off the straight groove. Rejected is built around trapped vocal snippets that swirl around the mix creating a disorienting effect, while high-speed drums and metallic synths drive relentlessly forward. Finally, Ghost closes the EP with a subtle sense of celebration, as synths soar through rusty and rattling techno grooves.
