30 years of Fuse. That’s 1,560 weekends of love, techno, I LOVE TECHNO, Motion Room, party flyers, La Demence, renovations, label nights, sound isolation, Jeu de Balle, long shifts, noise complaints, needle replacements, after-hours, legendary b2bs, compilations, resident DJs, On The Beach, emergency loops and an immeasurable amount of drink tickets.
2024 marked the 30th anniversary of the nightclub Fuse at its Rue Blaes location in Brussels. Belgium is home to cultural visionaries, mould-breaking characters and prolific producers who helped shape the foundations of the electronic music scene we enjoy today. As a result, Fuse’s history follows the contours of the history of house and techno at large. Through impactful visuals, quotes, research and storytelling, this book connects the dots between the rise of renowned artists and unique Belgian characters who crystalised Fuse as a temple of underground dance music.
From Detroit to the Marolles, from Ricardo Villalobos to DJ Pierre, from Carl Craig to Trish Van Eynde, from Daft Punk to Deg, from Laurent Garnier to Charlotte de Witte, from Warp to Music Man Records, even from Depeche Mode to Björk, this book documents not only the iconic performances and moments throughout the years but also the stories of those who took the risks of running a nightclub and the tens of thousands of dancers who poured their love, sweat, and tears into the labyrinthine walls of Fuse.
Essential for any raver or electronic music history buff, this book is an archival work dedicated to music aficionados who have kept their minds and ears open since 1994.
Keep on Fusin’.
Quote from Jeff Mills:
"Fuse is a testament to the theory that 'important' things have lasting power. The unique chemistry of a well-educated audience, intuitive production and a steady diet of master DJs via superb curation make the club one of the best in the world. Having been invited many times over the decades, I’ve never known The Fuse to be anything other than a wild and adventurous atmosphere––it’s addictive." Jeff Mills, 2024

Short bio author:
Koen Galle (°1983) founded his publishing house, AfterClub, to unearth stories about Belgium’s rich electronic music and nightlife culture. He caught the dance music bug in the late 90s and eventually made a name for himself as a club and radio DJ. Over time, his fascination for the people and stories behind the music led him to start writing and publishing.
