Funtown - I Got You / Easy Now [Funtown Records]

Newcastle’s Hot Biscuit Recordings are the puppet masters behind a number of white-label sub-labels, one of which is the elusive Funtown Records. The orchestrator of this series of releases is a mystery, as are the sample sources for each of the edits heard on this 12”. On the A-side, we hear a James Brown-esque breakdown and subsequent boogie number, on which it’s insisted that “we know what makes [this singer] feel good.” Good to know! Meanwhile, the B-side veers much more into instrumental synthfunk territory, proving the versatile temperament of this noisy re-editor.
