Frankey & Sandrino - Nova EP [Watergate]

Watergate favourites Frankey & Sandrino make their timely debut on the club’s imprint, with a classy Tiefschwarz remix to boot.

If you’ve found yourself at the Oberbaumbrücke institution on a Thursday over the last few years, chances are Frankey & Sandrino have been responsible for the soundtrack. The duo of Sandrino Tittel and Frank Beckers have helmed the Thursday residency since 2018, delivering a captivating blend of deep grooves and scintillating chord progressions.

The four-track ‘Nova’ EP is the embodiment of this immersive sonic palette. ‘Chimes’ is constructed around a strong melodic lead that ebbs and flows throughout the lustrous seven-minute cut, as soft pads and delicate drum patterns complete the work. This is followed by the title track, a delicious exploration into the deep, where subtle acid lines rub shoulders with wandering synths to construct a masterful snake-like groove. Tiefschwarz’s remix of ‘Chimes’ brings warmth to the package, as the original is imbued with a muscular percussive thump. ‘Black Hole’ is an enveloping composition made for the early hours, as a fiery low-end synth is juxtaposed with an effervescent melodic line to create an atmosphere-laden closer.
