Welcome to Pfefferkorn: a countryside studio tucked away inside what was once a 1950s cafe. The sleek interior remained, the cake display disappeared, but the mountainous panorama is still intact. From this unlikely combination, Obsolescence was born, Feater’s new album, a record that wasn’t planned but insisted on happening anyway.

Pfefferkorn originally hosted a carousel of guests and genres: jazz, kraut, pop, experimentation, and even the occasional field recording. Among them all, Mara Oldofredi, also known as Mietze Conte, became the most frequent and inspiring visitor. Her sessions ignited sparks, and one of them, “Trio,” landed directly on the album.

The method? One might call it instant archaeology: live improvisations recorded onto two-track tape, then edited, re-sampled, put through Fairlight IIX wizardry and an endless chain between tape and laptop. Fast, raw, and without too much overthinking; more sketch than sculpture, more instinct than intention.

The result is Obsolescence, a record born from detours, made for pure personal pleasure, and proving that by-products can become main courses if one lets them.
