Growing up on the North Atlantic island of Iceland grants an unusual and often intense relationship with light and colour: summers come with endless days, winters with scarce sunlight but with an increase in appearances of the aurora borealis; that mysterious and awe-inspiring glow that drapes the sky. Channeling such energies, Exos arrives on Tresor with his Green Light EP, a five-track collection of the kind of spectrally nuanced techno that has defined the Icelandic artist's 27-year career.

Throughout the EP, the five tracks sparkle and pulsate, relentlessly moving forward, making the release title a threefold play on words that alludes to the continuous movement of photons, the greenish undulation of the northern lights, and the universal colour signifying "go," of impetus and progression. The ingenious use of language is also evident in titles such as Grátt Silfur, an Icelandic term (literally "grey silver") that expresses the tension between two parts, thus expanding the chromatic metaphor and the dichotomy between light and darkness present in the rest of the work.

The digital version includes three additional tracks that extend this dynamic energy, driven by the same shifting and mutating force where the music often appears to be voices emerging from darkness or the flash of light as the sun peeks over the horizon.

Green Light EP continues the brilliant return this year of an artist who, like his music, never stands still: always shape-shifting, but always moving forward.
