Neurofunk was always an admirable art, but for too long it stayed within the strict territory of artists who would abandon more pop-oriented drum & bass and, in turn, attempt to show off who was the scene's most ingenious sound designer. En:vy’s new EP for Critical Music signals a shift in attitude: this is “neurofunk” that approaches the sound from a much more measured stance, leaving aside exaggerated sound design flourishes and out-of-place Reese womps to focus on a more meditative and refined musicality.

The EP demonstrates a great understanding of the subgenre's codes; "UFO" has a jump-up vibe that still remains light and dynamic, while "Beautiful Dreamer" is clearly the highlight of the release, with ethereal vocals that drive an immersive melodic rhythm to create a dreamy atmosphere charged with sub-bass.
