Edward - Eddie Green EP [Smallville]

Edward presents his latest collection of works, the ‘Eddie Green’ EP, via Smallville Records, comprised of four original tracks.

Over the last decade and a half, Frankfurt native Gilles Aiken, known to most simply as Edward, has been unravelling his productions on a regular basis via imprints such as Giegling, his most frequent home, but also on Baby Ford & Eon’s Trelik, White, Die Orakel, or DFA, as well as collaborating with Ricardo Villalobos in 2020 for their Disordered Rhythm Metronomy project on Perlon. This time out however, we see Edward mark his debut on Smallville Records, an ideal home for his deep, dynamic, and hypnotic style that regularly blurs the lines between House, Techno and beyond. First up is ‘Primal Dream’, a raw, stripped-back journey through synth modulations, chugging percussion, and a robust, dynamic rhythm section. ‘Blue Glue’ follows, delving into a more mystical sound world with haunting chants, echoing synths, meditative bells and ethereal textures intertwined with crisp and crunchy drums.

The title track, ‘Eddie Green’, opens the flip side, embracing a deep techno aesthetic with dark, hazy chords, resonant organic percussion, pulsating bass, and vocoder-laced spoken vocal lines. The aptly titled ‘So Slow’ closes the release, bringing the tempo down and honing in on Edward’s more jazz-tinged influences, with wandering piano melodies and soulful vocal chants uttering the track title, accompanied by stuttering drums and sporadic oscillating synth swells.
