ÈBONY - Shades of Meridian [Turbo Recordings]

Following their acclaimed album Union, JUNO-nominated duo Èbony rematerialize onto the dancefloor with the otherworldly EP Shades of Meridian, projecting a futuristic waking dream, haunted by echoes of Detroit techno, Chicago house, South African melodicism, and the rich mythology of ancient Toronto.

Opening track, Break My Skin, explores a hidden corner of after-hours techno space-time with an ethereal vocal from James Baley, giving way to the tense, disembodied jack of Forever. Then, Dull Side First rides a spectral breakbeat through a sepulchral warehouse journey; RIFT conjures peak-time sorcery, and closer My Daylight mesmerizes even the most unflappable of sound and lighting engineers, compelling them to saturate the fog machine until reality itself is veiled.

And for those who say working with JUNO-nominated artists proves Turbo is nothing more than a cog in the CanCon cabal, we’d like to set the record straight: Canadian Tire refused to stock our 2023 Bryan Adams remix LP and we have rejected five distinct demos from Justin Trudeau’s tech-house alias, Arabian Nights.
