Ebo Taylor - Ebo Taylor [Strut]

A foundational recording from one of Ghana’s great musical architects, Ebo Taylor’s self-titled 1977 album marked the legendary guitarist, arranger and composer’s first solo LP, following years of behind-the-scenes work shaping the sound of modern highlife.

Emerging during a pivotal era for Ghana’s cultural and political life, the record showcases Taylor fusing his roots in traditional Fante rhythms with the electric groove of American funk, soul, and jazz – a sound he honed during his time in London, where he shared experiences with artists like Fela Kuti and members of Osibisa.

Recorded for the Essiebons label, Ebo Taylor overflows with richly crafted horn sections, deep Afrobeat-inspired grooves, and a melodic sophistication that reflects Taylor's talent as a bandleader and storyteller. Unfairly overlooked at the time, the album has since become a must-have for vinyl collectors worldwide, with tracks like "Heaven" achieving cult status among DJs and music enthusiasts.

Now reissued by Strut Records, this release includes restored and remastered audio by The Carvery and See Why Audio, plus new liner notes with an interview with Ebo's son, Henry Taylor.
