DJ Subaru returns to Palms Trax’s CWPT with Dog, presenting three cuts of unconventional dance material spanning throbbing Italo, sticky indie dance tracks and timeless, snarling punk.

Following his 2024 EP Lots of Love, the short time since has seen the DJ and producer blossom on his own terms, landing Tune of the Week on BBC 6 Music’s Introducing show, performing multiple dates at Berghain/Panorama Bar and other spots across Europe, and always returning to further hone his almost cult-revered Pleasuremaxxx party in his hometown of Leeds.

The release’s title track Dog reunites DJ Subaru with regular vocal collaborator Chopper Johnson, delivering an exhilarating sermon of canine defiance that perfectly suits Subaru’s razor-sharp motorik disco. Its pumping bassline and angular guitar riffs prove irresistible for dancers looking for an independent energy in the wake of CBGBs or Trash.

Rush, meanwhile, channels the same philosophy into a bouncy pleasure palace, taking the tempo up and masterfully splitting its impulses between the cosmic elegance of Norwegian nu-disco and the popper-fuelled, strobe-lit fantasies of Pete Waterman. The result is an international anthem in memory of all local discotheques.

Finally, Swoon steps back from the more effervescent attitude of its tougher siblings to deliver Subaru’s most disciplined attempt yet at a bona fide ‘proper club track’. The result fully works on its own merits, destined to hypnotise attendees with bliss-filled analogue chords and winding drums, without ever losing the pulse of Subaru’s unique sonic character.
