Dj Monchan - Silent Dub [Hot Biscuit Recordings]

Hot Biscuit Recordings has spent the last few years serving up heavyweight re-edit EPs, mostly by veteran talents such as Rahaan and the Idjut Boys. For this 12”, they've recruited another long-serving re-editor: Brooklyn-based Japanese-American producer DJ Monchan, ringleader of East Village Edits.

Of course, there's a generous dose of orchestrated disco on the flip, with 'Finally' seemingly extending and re-shaping Steve Bendner's 1977 version of 'The Final Thing'. It's A-side 'Silent Dub', though, that really hits home. Here, the Dailysession Records founder turns his attention to a minimal, spacey synth-pop track from (we think) the 80s, re-imagining it as a hypnotic, deep house/dub track, replete with trippy effects, echo-laden vocal snippets and delay-drenched percussion.
