Hart & Tief returns. The dark bastard of Pampa. The proverbial black sheep. For the label’s second statement, we have the twin voices of Dj Koze and Robag Wruhme. Both are masters of simultaneously remaining identifiable yet surprising, and the freedom afforded by this fledgling imprint drives them to push their respective envelopes. “Driven” sees Koze return to previously explored percussive tropes and explore a new minimalist clarity of emotion via maximal means. The track thumps, snaps, and pumps in a singular trajectory that belies its complexity and complements its title. Not to be outdone, Robag Wruhme offers “X-mop 198”, a linear slice of horror-techno that cleverly recontextualizes its simplistic components into a jagged and consistently surprising listen, creating a form of body music for the mind.
