To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Kruder & Dorfmeister’s DJ-Kicks will be available for the first time in mixed format on a 3LP edition, remastered by Bernie Grundman and presented in a special box with the original artwork.

Kruder & Dorfmeister’s installment for the series marked a defining moment of an era, bringing together a brilliant spectrum of musical records. The Viennese downtempo royalty merged slowed-down passages from multiple genres with the enveloping Drum and Bass of artists like Aquasky, the deep acid lines of Hardfloor, and the smoky atmospheres built on 90s boom bap sampling of Thievery Corporation, among many others.

These masters of atmosphere captured the sound of a moment with their DJ-Kicks, a mix that still retains an unmistakable cinematic glow and the patina of authenticity: curation and mixing in its most playful and refined form. To this day, it remains one of the most recognizable DJ-Kicks and mixes of all time.

It also includes two emblematic tracks by the duo themselves: in “High Noon,” the enveloping sensation reaches its peak with Dorfmeister’s intoxicating jazz flute phrases and a trembling harmonica floating over a mirage of breaks. The original and legendary track from their DJ-Kicks, “Black Baby,” closes the mix with a majestic air, drifting towards the horizon until it disappears into the distance.
