Hailing from Naarm, Australia, Tristan Hallis, aka DJ BORING, was always an artist looking for ways to engage with his local scene. In 2015, his curiosity and longing for change inspired him to move abroad to London, where he found new creative stimulus that would set him on the path he is still on today.

Working in a coffee shop in Shoreditch, Hallis would soundtrack the venue by improvising sets using a music app on a tablet, and he recalls Moodymann’s DJ-Kicks (2016), which he discovered in that setting, as a decisive and inspiring spark in his journey. Since then, DJ BORING has been working on his craft, patiently building his talents and catalogue into a vibrant and illustrious career that has taken him to all corners of the world. Any interaction with DJ BORING reveals a truly affable character. A sharp sense of humour and self-deprecating tone are contrasted by an unwavering attention to his craft.

After all, Hallis himself notes, “I like my personality to be reflected in every work I do.” Hallis’s DJ-Kicks mix is designed to stimulate the senses. “This DJ-Kicks mix is my personality to a T,” Hallis smiles, revelling in the creative freedom to explore multiple emotional territories. “It’s a perfect balance of everything I love; it’s hopeful and meditative but also fun. I hope people listen to it from start to finish and go on the journey, because it goes everywhere.”
