The record label of the new pop star's catalog diggers launches its 7" series with the intention of "delving into the unreleased sides of past pop superstars' material," initially focusing on two previously unreleased instrumental funk tracks recorded by the artist after whom the label is named. Who would have thought that an anisocoric boy from Bromley would end up playing funk? But he did: at some unspecified point, he recorded funk versions of Fame and Golden Years, two already monumental moments in his discography. His characteristic rhythmic stiffness shines through as ever here, but it's the instrumental of Fame that really showcases his more biting side, with long sustained notes and dramatic two-tone movements.
