David Mayer - The Call [Ouie]

David Mayer’s career and journey are defined by a constant desire for movement and exploring new perspectives. After finally settling in Berlin, the German DJ and producer has built an enviable catalog on labels such as Connected Frontline, Objektivity, Gruuv, Audiomatique, and Keinemusik. With his first release on Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan’s Ouïe label, Mayer once again brings his signature groove to the forefront.

“The Call” is a mid-tempo track that kicks off with a kick drum, clap, and a touch of 808, before evolving into a more organic groove. Slowed-down chants and a psychedelic synth line lead the atmosphere into afro-cosmic territory, without losing the original energy.

“Sooner” is a bit more urgent and marks another collaboration with Sooma. Following their recent joint work on “Drained”, the duo delivers an instrumental this time. A crisp and dynamic rhythm, accompanied by a deep and enveloping bass, pave the way before another distorted synthesizer takes us on a melodic journey.

“Black Queen” is another example of Mayer’s impeccable rhythmic programming, keeping the dance floor fresh while allowing space to get lost in the sound.

The digital bonus track, “The Girl With No Name”, introduces a sublime kalimba melody and esoteric percussion, fitting perfectly into a laid-back house vibe.
