Long-time label friend and Stones Throw catalog exponent, Rejoicer is joined by frequent collaborator, Apifera bandmate, and acclaimed pianist Nitai Hershkovits to present a new alias and a conceptual piece titled Cinema Royal – a delicate yet bold album that subtly captures attention.

Having previously collaborated on works for Raw Tapes and other projects, this work leans more towards modern classical music, with touches of ambient and jazz woven into the musical texture of the compositions. Led by piano, the album unfolds an astonishing variety of orchestral and percussive instruments, and traditional strings from around the world, combined in a way that might seem forced, but fits together with absolute naturalness.

The fact that it is so easy to listen to distracts from its complexity. Synthesizers comfortably blend with Afrobeat-inspired drums, East Asian sitars float among classical string arrangements, while Ethio-jazz keyboards dance over programmed drum patterns that are understated yet irresistibly funky. Inspired to generate a cinematic energy, they found the essence of Fellini in the choice of the album cover, striving to create a work that could exist as a film soundtrack.

The album emanates a sense of lightness and fluidity that reflects the musicians' virtuoso skills. The feeling of fun is contagious, and the playful improvisation is energizing. Conceptually, the inspiration came from a simple drum loop and a single take on the piano, where both worked immersed in a deep flow, with collaborations from friends to enrich the initial piano melody.
