Charles Webster - Decision Time Remix EP [Dimensions Recordings]

Charles Webster's 2020 album Decision Time – the East Midlands veteran's first full-length for 19 years – was predictably good, but more geared towards downtempo and immersive listening than outright dancefloor fare. This EP of remixes from the album is therefore long overdue. The EP's opening remix from Dazzle Drums of 'This Is Real' is an exquisite slice of soul-flecked deep house jazz and bossa, while Jazuelle's 'Retro Rhapsody' take on 'Music' effortlessly joins the dots between relaxed breakbeat, street soul and warm deep house sounds. Over on the flip, Mark E re-imagines 'The Spell' as an analogue-rich chunk of delicately dreamy deep house hypnotism, while 'Luciano' channels the spirit of Matthew Herbert's best micro-house productions with a rippling, soul-enriching full vocal take on 'Music'. A mature proposition that sounds just as good at home as in the club.
