Originally released on Relief in '94, A New Beginning and its sequels The-B-W Groove and Phasis offer striking contrasts, sensitively portraying the city's many narrow, blocked streets with sound. The first of these two pieces unfurls smoky strings and chords rising from the depths, while the second cranks up the knob to release a meandering FM bounce, around which sparkling 909s, tuned cowbells, and saturated bass drums cluster.
