Black Loops - 7 Hills EP (Mad Rey Remix) [Freerange Records]

We’re delighted to announce a very limited, hand-stamped repress of Black Loops debut EP, 7 Hills, on Freerange. Splitting his time between Berlin and his native Italy, the Italian producer has had a solid few years climbing the house ranks with releases on respected labels such as Shall Not Fade, Pets, Toytonics, Aterral, Gruuv and Neovinyl.

His influences spanning funk, soul, disco and 90’s New York house provide depth, warmth and musicality to his productions which have led to him being in high demand as a DJ globally and made him a natural fit for Freerange.

This EP, almost entirely produced during an extended tour of Australia, opens with the title track, 7Hills, inspired by the area he was staying and working in whilst there. Black Loops trademark groove, smooth Rhodes chords and keyboard flourishes from Nikos Haropoulos alongside a deep, enveloping bassline combine to make for an ideal warm up track; uplifting, subtle and with an atmosphere of anticipation.

Next up Parisian producer Mad Rey takes 7Hills for a raw, vibrant reinterpretation, taking it into a more intense, peak-time territory. Mad Rey has turned out brilliant releases on labels such as D.Ko, Rekids and more recently Mamie’s Records, and along with fellow label mates Flabaire and Paul Cut has helped solidify Paris as a hotbed of fresh musical talent.

On the flip side of the vinyl we find two more Black Loops originals. King Paul takes a classic soul vocal sample and uses it to great effect over crisp 909 beats and sun-drenched keys. Closing the EP, and exclusive to vinyl, Linda38 follows a similar path but with a more pronounced groove and warm pads completing the EP in fine style.
