Ben La Desh - Fine Rise EP [Dirtcrew]

Our 20th year of celebration continues with a very special comeback! It has been exactly ten years since Ben La Desh's last release on our label. His sublime "Stellar Talk EP" made a big impact and, together with the "Midnight Rendez-Vous EP" from 2012, established him in the lo-fi deep space house scene as an artist to watch out for. Nobody was producing deep house like him back then. After a long hiatus from music production, he's back and we think stronger than ever. With analog gear and a curated selection of samples and live recordings, we present his "Fine Rise EP".

The opening track, "Heel Goed," is an incredible track with that distinctive 909 beat and the characteristic "La Desh" flavor DX bass and a truly wonderful vocal sample from a 90s TV commercial, hilariously funny and brilliant at the same time. We can't wait to see people's faces, especially on Dutch dance floors, when they try to decipher and figure out what the girls are talking about! The second track on the A-side is the super funky "Lift Adrift," which flanges out into outer space, ethereal with chopped break beats and various layers of percussion and Pearl Syncussion rhythms run through effect pedals, Lift Adrift!

On the flip side, we start with the deep title track "Fine Rise." Here Ben once again delights us with his characteristic space-effect-driven sound and, in addition, a killer bassline and synth melody, reminiscent of the golden age of good trance music. This is followed by the break beat gem that is "Asanti," with cautiously chopped breaks and machine drums layered with bubbling Syncussion sounds, raindrops falling on different surfaces recorded in a garden in the French Drôme and a processed African kalimba. Did we say ethereal yet? It is! Closing this great new record is the ambient piece "Expanding Signal," an analog tune consisting of field recordings and deep dub chords, a rising Juno pulse, swooshes, and again a deep DX bassline, think "Sun Electric" or "The Orb."
