Saqqara EP is a multi-layered sonic canvas conceived by the mind of Chris Barratt, who inaugurates his new alias, Barratt, for Life and Death. Delicate brushstrokes emerge from all corners of his musical refuge and expand across five different sound sculptures, each deforming and intertwining in its own cosmic trajectory. Taking key elements from his Eagles & Butterflies project, Barratt introduces new musical tonalities that evoke moments of disco and funk filtered through a psychedelic lens.
The EP's namesake track is a late-night floor-filler: a bold and deeply personal necropolis built from captivating echoes and arpeggiators. On "Time Bending," DJ Tennis joins in, contributing his characteristic raw and imperfect production aesthetic, on a journey to unknown destinations. In "Khaos," Barratt focuses on a confident, minimalist style where rhythm confronts melody, just in time for festival season. "1983" soundtracks a journey to utopia on a rocket-powered Vespa, before flowing into "Collider," a land of unquantized madness where cherished synthesizers coexist with their inseparable drum machines.
Fluid and, at the same time, deeply interconnected, Saqqara is best interpreted as a mini-artist album: the first of many releases under the Barratt name.
