Architectural - A Girl With No Friends EP [Ellum Black]

Ellum Black, the notorious Maceo Plex imprint’s new sub-label, focuses on the darker, more intellectual side of techno. This second record instalment features Spanish producer Architectural. After releasing an EP on the main branch of the label in 2017, Juan Rico, aka Architectural, provides us with three avant-garde cuts on this record.

Architectural is known for his detailed and magnetic productions, and on “A Girl With No Friends” EP he delves into the hypnotic edge of his soundscape. The first track we hear, “Romanticism Movement”, sets a precedent for the vocabulary of sounds Rico utilized for this record, such as low frequencies and deep grooves. The title track continues on the B-side and develops these textures. Closing the trio, “Never Yours, Boy” concludes the EP with another variation of Architectural’s romantic techno repertoire.
