Alex Kassian - Leave Your Life [Pinchy & Friends]

For our fifth release, P&f Recordings is delighted to welcome Berlin-based musician, producer, and DJ, Alex Kassian.

Over the past several years, Kassian has made a name for himself in Berlin and beyond, both solo and with his project Opal Sunn, through a string of acclaimed, dancefloor-focused 12”s. For our first release of 2021, however, Kassian steps away from the tech pulse of the German capital to explore a more melodic, atmospheric sound.

The A-side kicks off with “Leave Your Life (Lonely Hearts Mix)”, a track born out of the producer’s desire to shape some of his earliest—and until now, unfulfilled—dreams of playing in a rock band.

He then presents “Leave Your Life (Dance Mix)”, which elevates the energy and conjures up some of the production techniques that made his “Oolong Trance” (Love on the Rocks) one of 2020’s biggest club tracks.

On the flip, the beautiful “Spirit of Eden” unfolds like a lost Lyle Mays classic but with a hypnotic loop that keeps the track firmly anchored to the dancefloor.

The EP closes with a bass-heavy remix by none other than American dub legend Bill Laswell. Here, the melodic approach of “Eden” is held down by a pounding groove and filtered through Laswell’s unmistakable sonic dynamics.

The EP comes housed in a full-color sleeve with artwork by Parisian artist Alexis Jamet, accompanied by an OBI strip.
