The record kicks off with a duo who need no introduction, label legends Chaos In The CBD work their magic on TLF, playing with Josh Kelly’s drawn-out, noir-esque sax notes and Allysha’s whispered tones to create a sensual and sophisticated house number in their typically infectious style. The duo first made their mark on Rhythm Section audiences with the classic 2015 ‘Midnight in Peckham’ EP, swiftly followed by ‘Invisible Spectrum’ in 2016. They return to the label 5 years later to deliver another impeccably smooth and melancholic dancefloor jam.

Next up, Utrecht native Carista comes in with the sound of the Netherlands for a new wave electro journey. She stormed the club scene with her ability to captivate dancers, making an international impact with her raw energy and eclectic, soulful selections as a DJ. Carista has gone on to hold residencies on NTS, Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio and most recently BBC Radio One, as well as building her reputation as a curator behind the United Identities label and platform. This dynamic and hard-hitting lo-fi interpretation focuses on percussion and creates space for Allysha’s vocal to shine before bringing in futuristic synth lines to up the ante.

"When TLF first reached my ears I was instantly in awe and inspired by the song. An excellent music production by 30/70 and Allysha’s comforting vocal easily touches your heart right away upon listening to it. A true masterpiece!" - Carista

Tornado Wallace takes us straight to a deep pink sunset on the lost festival ground with his Red Face Mix of Tastes Like Freedom. Masterfully building the tension for almost 5 minutes by hinting at various TLF components before melting into a euphorically blissful break. After making moves as a leader in Melbourne’s dance music community, Tornado Wallace’s distinctive, discerning electronics found him in constant rotation across both hemispheres in the pre-pandemic world, spending the majority of the year in Berlin to accommodate an increasingly busy DJ schedule. Releases on Second Circle (sister label to Amsterdam’s cult archivists Music From Memory) and Gerd Janson’s Running Back have cemented his position as a foremost producer of lush, balearic leaning beats.

To close, there are the cerebral and ethereal sounds of Yu Su’s Midnight Blossom Remix, where the Kaifeng-born composer, DJ and sound artist continues her exploration of ‘fourth world’ ambience and leftfield dance music. Yu Su describes her emotionally charged productions as “organically sticky jazz-bient expeditions between coasts” and we couldn’t be more ready to float through that journey. Slowing down the tempo for this final rework, Yu Su leans into the healing potential of instrumentation, creating a moment of calm to finish off the EP and perfectly compliment the eclecticism of the record. After her standout track on the label’s ‘SHOUTS’ compilation in 2020, Rhythm Section fans have been eagerly waiting to hear from Yu Su, and now their calls have been answered!
