A visit to Egypt and an opportunity for the Arkestra to play there was therefore a necessity. Ra’s first gigs outside the United States had taken place in late summer and autumn 1970, with appearances in France, Germany and the UK, and a second European tour was arranged for late 1971. At the close of that second tour, Ra learned of cheap flights from Denmark to Cairo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese editions include recordings made by Arkestra member Thomas “Bugs” Hunter in December 1971 on the streets around the Mena House Hotel, Giza; at a concert held at the home of expat Hartmut Geerken of the Goethe Institute in Heliopolis; at a live broadcast from a Cairo television channel; and at a concert at the Ballon Theatre in Cairo.
