The king of eccentric Sheffield disco, Fulton is one of our favorite artists, a producer with his head in outer space with roots in Baltimore club music who has no problem injecting moist interplanetary funk into the softest acts. And so it goes with his remix of “The Fall”. Rich and typically off-kilter, this is a mesmerising record par excellence. Fulton arms the track with a wobbly electro-funk synth bassline before switching to a reverbing disco twang and a conga-led, cymbal-lifted groove.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eEssential doesn’t even cover it; it is just unbelievably good.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe beautiful original, housed here on the B-side, is a sublime serenade, with shimmering strings and sweet, sumptuous vocals over smooth, jazzy piano stylings. It drew comparisons to Sade, Air and The xx upon initial release and it’s still easy to see why; it’s warm and joyful yet deeply melancholic.
