Beginning as a singles series that he kicked off in 2023, ‘Venti’ sees Edwards explore lower tempos, House, Disco, and the pop reinterpretations that spawned the moniker back in 2001.

From ‘Venti’s’ opening track, a brilliant piano-led piece of house that has gone on to be an anthem at Sean Johnston and the late Andrew Weatherall’s lauded ALFOS parties, it’s clear that Edwards is keen to celebrate the past, but through the lens of the present. A Radio Slave favourite, ‘Wait A Minute’ gets an update to include a powerhouse vocal from Nez. Kylie’s ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’, a track that propelled Radio Slave into modern dance music’s consciousness, is reimagined as an Italo-inspired take featuring the glorious vocals of Michael Love Michael. ‘Wild Life’ and ‘Wake Up’, two other tracks that as singles, dominated the house and disco sets of the greats in 2023, simultaneously feel fresh whilst paying homage to the origins of House, message-laden lyrics and all. A cover of Audion’s ‘Mouth to Mouth’ and Edwards’ tribute to Terry Hall, a reinterpretation of Fun Boy Three’s, ‘The Lunatics’ are exemplars of Radio Slave’s talent for taking cherished songs and making them his own. Radio Slave’s cut and paste nu-disco ‘Jaws’, lasers at the ready to fire, is a muscular and timely reminder that a track’s strength lies in its feeling rather than its tempo, whilst Edwards’ mastery of dub aesthetics and unparalleled ability to stretch grooves into a tension-filled journey shine through on ‘New Balance’ and the epic closer, ‘Thirty-Six’. Never one to completely give in to 4:4 beats, the cinematic electro of ‘Stranger In The Night’ and the Balearic collaboration with Cagedbaby, ‘Amnesia’, round out ‘Venti’ as the full Radio Slave experience, as intense as it is subtle.

One of the most prolific and critically acclaimed electronic music artists of the last two and a half decades, Matt Edwards was born in Catford, London, in the early 70s. By the time acid house hit the city, Edwards was deeply immersed in the scene, and has remained there ever since. Residencies at the ground-breaking Ministry of Sound and an ‘unofficial residency’ that has seen him become one of Panorama Bar’s most booked DJs during his 15 years living in Berlin, have provided the bedrock for an enviable touring diary that continues to this day.

His label Rekids, a platform that has launched some of dance music’s biggest names, has been held up as a high watermark for two decades, with Matt as the sole A&R. Collaborations with legendary artists like DJ Hell and Robert Hood, releases for Running Back, R&S, Innervisions, Figure and more, and a remix discography that simply could not be repeated in modern music, showcase just how important Radio Slave is.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0583/1239/2867/files/image_5b30dc32-33c1-4a19-be48-df2718b230e7.jpg?v=1724092512
