MORE D4TA, the group’s fourth album, arrives more than six years after its predecessor (2016’s III).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCrafted largely during a period when touring (and most travel) was off the table, MORE D4TA is an album that grapples with feelings of isolation and information overload, issues that have become especially pronounced over the past two years. The ten songs of MORE D4TA are rooted in collaboration, but long before any of its tracks were laid down, Moderat spent months living together and reacquainting themselves musically, giving themselves over to long periods of experimentation and slowly developing ideas while diving into modular composition, field recordings and other sonic oddities.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut, no matter how far they wander into the outer domains of music, they always wind up coming back to their own unique sonic universe, a place where emotive pop and oscillating electronic soundscapes walk hand in hand. Many of its lyrics are inspired by Ring’s frequent trips to Berlin’s Gemäldegalerie museum (often with his young daughter), where he would seek refuge in the grand paintings of the past while worrying about the future.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat they create isn’t necessarily music for dancing, but it is something that glows brightest in the dark of night, with the group’s rich melodies and Ring’s ethereal vocals emitting a warm, almost bioluminescent glow.
