The mix of pride, anxiety and anticipation is almost unbearable. In the end, you hold your own record in your hands and realize that this could be the start of something beautiful. In this case, it’s debutants Makèz who are experiencing that rush with their first release on Heist.

Makèz (consisting of Jan-Willem Mulder and Kees van ’t Klooster) are a duo from Amsterdam, where they both studied music production and sound design. Besides DJing under different aliases, they have been organizing their successful intimate party series “Peak Mystique” where we had the chance to meet them. It was hard not to get infected by their musical enthusiasm, and after some listening sessions and help from Fouk’s Daniel Leseman and Hans Peeman for the final mix, we were all really pleased with the music they produced for Heist.

Their “Different Planets” EP shows the duo navigating between disco-tinged house, dreamy electronica, and classic Chicago influences. The remix comes from none other than Bobby Analog, Belfast DJ and founder of the Body Fusion label.

The title track is a warm house track with an Italo-leaning bassline, filtered leads and hazy Rhodes chords. The female backing vocals and an “eyes closed, hands in the air” breakdown give the track a true summery and joyous spirit. We know, because that was exactly what happened when we played the first demo of this track last year during our sunrise set at one of the coolest festivals in the Netherlands: Wildeburg.

Bobby Analog does a great job remixing “Different Planets,” transforming the original into a classic club track with pure Chicago influences. The stabs, small synth licks, and strings evoke a classic Chez & Trent production, while the bassline cleverly shows a touch of Bobby’s own musical legacy.

The B-side showcases Makèz' deeper side, with the synth-driven electronica of “Cosmic Symphony,” where a modulating Moog-like bassline and a syncopated piano create a vibrant atmosphere. The EP concludes with “Random Visits,” a track driven by arpeggios, raw guitars, and equally rustic percussion.

We’re very happy to introduce Makèz to the world, and vice versa. We hope you enjoy this music as much as we do.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0583/1239/2867/files/image_5316d99c-d3e8-4df8-90e2-4ad6c442d504.jpg?v=1761865151
