After a concert in Munich, they had an encounter with an annoying student and journalist who couldn't understand how they could fill their live performances with only one release to their name. He didn't know that the duo had already delivered exceptional remixes for Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Depeche Mode, and David Holmes.

On the way back to Vienna, Peter Kruder couldn't stop thinking about that conversation. He told Richard Dorfmeister, "We have to make a compilation, gather all our remixes so people can see what we've done." Had it not been for that dissatisfied journalist, the dub downtempo masterpiece The K&D Sessions might never have come to light. "We have no idea who that student was, but we should invite him to dinner, because he was the spark that ignited the idea for the compilation," says Kruder with a smile.

Released in 1999, Sessions was a double album featuring two original tracks and nineteen remixes spanning high-grade drum & bass, cerebral dub, and Brazilian samples. Its beauty lies in the subtly complex details. Minimalist, luxurious instrumentals calmly advance, propelled by distorted sound effects that playfully contrast with high-definition drums. Waves of bubbling acid and ghostly ambient chords emerge and fade without the need for a climax or obvious build-up. It's a contained yet hypnotic album, inviting you to pause and absorb every nuance.

Sessions set a standard for what we now know as “mood music.” It encompasses a variety of genres, from seductively atmospheric R&B to lo-fi psychedelia. It's versatile and accessible, with just the right balance of familiarity and intrigue to appeal to a broad audience. But Sessions doesn't just create mood, it IS the mood. It dims the lights of any space, applying a hazy, dreamy filter to conversations. Everyday moments become cinematic scenes; fleeting thoughts transform into profound reflections.

In addition to uniting listeners with different tastes and expanding the Kruder & Dorfmeister cult, Sessions captured the underlying spirit of its time. Melancholic intensity and an air of dark indulgence marked some of the most influential releases of the late 90s, such as Massive Attack's Mezzanine, Photek's Form & Function, Air's Moon Safari, and Boards of Canada's Music Has the Right to Children. In tune with that zeitgeist, Sessions adopted a denser, darker sound compared to its predecessor, G-Stoned.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0583/1239/2867/files/image_a7c8fa8c-a5df-48e2-b01f-5b99bb066a37.jpg?v=1739830971
https://tenampa.mx/en/products/kruder-dorfmeister-the-k-d-sessions-tm-6x12-boxset-edicion-del-25-aniversario
