Drive, one of the greatest independent film successes of the last decade, is the kind of movie where the soundtrack plays a starring role. As in his previous works, Nicolas Winding Refn meticulously curated the musical selection with the help of Cliff Martinez (former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer), choosing Nightcall for the opening scene. Very soon, the synergy between image and sound becomes so natural that it's hard to say whether the music responds to the film or vice versa.

Kavinsky's anticipated debut album, Outrun, includes 13 tracks, among them 8 unreleased songs and several remakes. From the very first notes, we hear Paul Hahn (Daft Punk's manager) narrating an introduction to Kavinsky's adventures. With a warm and electric energy, Blizzard kicks off the journey and sets the tone before giving way to ProtoVision, whose nervous and synthetic rhythm made it the album's first preview, previously released on an EP. Then comes Odd Look, the first vocal track on the album, revealing a mysterious and funky performance, evoking the groove of Marvin Gaye or Prince.

Next up is Rampage, with a menacing orchestral atmosphere reminiscent of Dragon Ball Z, followed by Suburbia, with a powerful beat over which the legendary Havoc of Mobb Deep lends his voice. The revamped version of Testarossa Autodrive confirms the effectiveness of its unstoppable melody, and it's at this point that Nightcall reappears, the iconic ballad produced by Guy-Manuel from Daft Punk and featuring Lovefoxxx from CSS.

Later, Dead Cruiser bursts in with a mix of strength and melancholy, followed by Grand Canyon, which sweeps us away with its electric chorus. The voice of Tyson, the UK's funk revelation, transforms the instrumental First Blood into a true hit. The rhythmic and melodic Roadgame leads us to Endless, which subtly closes this long-awaited debut album, concluding with an epilogue narrated once again by Paul Hahn.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0583/1239/2867/files/image_ef4a0f80-5c81-4091-b8cf-cc25b8fa2a0e.jpg?v=1741302883
