Ahmed Malek, who has often been likened to Ennio Morricone, recorded the majority of these pieces in the 1970s and early 1980s. His previous releases are high points in the history of the Habibi Funk label, so we’re extra happy to be able to present another installment of his music in 2024.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe initially discovered Ahmed’s music via YouTube, and then the stars aligned to connect us with his family in Algeria. During one of those visits several years ago, his daughter Henia gave us a box full of master tapes her father had kept at home, and this collection ended up being the basis of this release.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe were, and continue to be, mesmerized by how easily his music transitions between thematic jazz, funk, and Algerian folk, balanced by an undercurrent of melancholia. Musical perception is distinct for everyone, but there's a strong chance Malek's music will touch you one way or another.
