A consummate musician, his effervescent productions consistently strike that perfect spot between primal dancefloor energy and more cerebral musicality, thanks to a propulsive sound that combines influences from jazz, house, garage, funk, hip hop, latin, neo-soul (and so much more). While he had already forged a distinctive sonic language of his own, Evergreen represents his most accomplished work to date. Here he makes his full vocal debut and introduces a new level of songwriting prowess, adding to his already recognised dancefloor credibility.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eComposed during – and undoubtedly influenced by – these challenging times, Evergreen explores themes of adversity and gratitude, arriving as a masterclass in contemplative songwriting and a celebration of musical influences. The record gracefully bridges the divide between soulful house’s underground and the jazz crossover territories inhabited by the likes of Jacob Collier, Thundercat, Tom Misch, and Jordan Rakei, evoking an era when jazz-funk sensibilities and popular appeal were not mutually exclusive. Few artists possess the musical aptitude or creative vision to attempt such a bold fusion of styles, and thanks to its exceptional execution and irresistible appeal, Evergreen is poised to introduce Crackazat’s sound to a whole new audience.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEvergreen has a distinctly live character throughout, with musical virtuosity coupled with thoughtfully constructed song structures – elements often absent from the dance music canon. “It's the album I always wanted to make,” says Crackazat. Soul-laden vocals – performed by Jacobs himself – are the cornerstone of the collection, with the strength and depth of his performance revealing itself as quite the surprise. “The hardest thing by far was getting my vocals to a standard I was happy with,” he comments. “So I was made up when Freerange responded to the first draft with two thumbs up and a big smile”.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe album’s release on Freerange, a benchmark label for British deep house, seems a natural progression.
